Cartier SA is a French based jeweler and watch manufacturer of high end products that is a subsidiary of Switzerland’s Compagnie Financière Richemont SA. It was founded in Paris in 1847 by Louis-François Cartier when he took over the workshop of his master. In 1874, although his son Alfred Cartier took over the administrative responsibility of the company, it was Alfred’s sons Louis, Pierre and Jacques, who expanded and established the worldwide brand name of Cartier.
Pierre Cartier opened the famous New York City branch in 1909, which it moved in 1917 to its current location on 653 Fifth Avenue, the mansion of Morton Freeman Plant (son of railroad tycoon Henry B. Plant). Cartier purchased the mansion from the Plant family in exchange for $100 in cash along with a double-stranded natural pearl necklace valued at the time in excess of time $1 million.
The company has a long and distinguished history of serving the worlds royalty, as well as famous stars and celebrities.
